Inspirational Thought for the Day
Everyone Makes Mistakes
(a variation of one of my favorites)
There was once a very understanding father who made one request of his son.
"Son," he said, pointing to a polished hardwood post stand in the back yard, "I want you to do just one thing for me. Each time you do an evil thing I want you to drive a nail into this post. And, when you have done a good deed or performed a charitable act, you may withdraw a nail."
The son agreed. He didn't understand why his father was asking this of him, but it seemed an easy request to fulfill.
Like most young men, he reluctantly found himself driving a nail into the post, but he did it anyway. He also found that when he was able to withdraw one of the nails, it was a moment of triumph. It was then that he discovered the wisdom of his father's request. Because, although each good act balanced a bad act, the nail holes could never be erased.
And so it is with all our lives. We may correct bad habits or make firm resolutions to change for the better; still there remains an indelible mark of the past, however slight.
If we are as wise as the father hoped his son would be, we will take a lesson from each of our mistakes. We will learn that our tomorrows often depend on our decisions and actions made TODAY.

When the day is torn by trouble
And your heart is lone and sad.
Just remember all the blessings
And the good that you have had.
God's sure hand is ever leading
Life the curtain of despair.
For however deep life's shadows
You will find your Father there.
There's a path His love is planning
Which must mean the best for you.
There are blessings, countless blessings,
Which are hidden now from view.
Tune your anxious heart to patience.
Walk by faith where sight is dim.
Loving God, be calm and trustful
And leave everything with Him.
Has not yesterday a lesson
Bearing on your present need?
"Daily bread for daily hunger"
Is the message there we read
Thus our heart gains full assurance
That His love will be our stay,
Giving strength and help and blessings,
As we need them for today.

Prayer of a Clown
Dear Lord: Help me to create more laughter than tears, disperse more happiness than gloom, spread more cheer than despair.
Never let me grow so big that I will fail to see the wonder in the eyes of a child or the twinkle in the eyes of the aged.
Never let me forget that I am a clown, that my work is to cheer people, make them laugh, and thus forget momentarily all the unpleasant things in their live.
Never let me acquire financial success to the point where I will discontinue calling upon my Creator in the hour of need, or acknowledging and thanking Him in the hour of plenty.

If you had a bank that credited your account each morning with $86,400 that carried over no balance from day to day and allowed you to keep no cash in your account and every evening canceled whatever part of the amount you had failed to use during the day, what would you do? Draw out every cent of course!
Well, you have such a bank, and its name is "time". Every morning it credits you with 86,400 seconds. Every night it rules off, as lost, whatever of this you have failed to invest in good purpose.
It carries over no balance. It allows no overdrafts. Every day it opens a new account with you. Each night it burns the records of the day. If you fail to use the day's deposits the loss is yours. There is no going back. There is no drawing against the 'tomorrows'.
You must live in the present - on today's deposits. Invest it so as to get from it the utmost in health, happiness and success.

When things go wrong as they sometimes will
When the road you're traveling seems all uphill,
And you want to smile but you have to sigh.
When care is pressing you down a bit,
Rest if you must, but don't you quite.
Life is queer with its twists and turns,
As everyone of us sometimes learns,
And many a failure turns about,
Don't give up though the pace seems slow -
You may succeed with another blow.
Success is failure turned inside out,
The silver tint of the clouds of doubt,
And you never can tell how close you are.
It may be near when it seems so far.
So stick to the fight when you're hardest hit.

O God, Keep us from Pettiness

Keep us, O God, from pettiness, let us be large in thought, in word, in deed.
Let us be done with fault finding and leave off self-seeking.
May we put away all pretense and meet each other face to face without self-pity and prejudice.
May we never be hasty in judgment and always generous.
Let us take time for all things; make us to grow calm, serene, gentle.
Teach us to put into action our better impulses, straightforward and unafraid.
Grant that we may realize it is the little things that create differences; that in big things of life, we are one.
And may we strive to touch and to know the great common human heart of us all, and O Lord, God, let us not forget to be kind.

It looks like if we can share our hymns with each other, we should be able to share other thing."
