You say, "I can't go on."
God says, "My grace is sufficient."

Leonardo da Vinci and anger
Inspirational Thought for the Day
Anger is often more harmful than the injury that caused it.
When Leonardo da Vinci was working on his painting "The Last Supper", he became angry with a certain man. Losing his temper he lashed the other fellow with bitter words and threats. Returning to his canvass he attempted to work on the face of Jesus, but was unable to do so. He was so upset he could not compose himself for the painstaking work. Finally he put down his tools and sought out the man and asked forgiveness. The man accepted his apology and Leonardo was able to return to his workshop and finish painting the face of Jesus.

Very Sad Mistake
Inspiration for the Day
"Tomorrow morning the sun will rise over the ancient hills just like it did the day before and for ten million yesterdays. The tides will rise and fall just like they have been rising and falling for countless ages. The rocky cliffs will reflect the rays of the rising sun, as usual. Water will go roaring down canyons centuries old, or flow serenely in the level stretches to the sea. Some instinct will bring the birds back north with the coming spring. On all this the stars and moon look down from the serenity of the firmament.
And while this is going on, over and over again, only mankind is tense. Only man becomes so wrapped up in his petty little problems of economics and politics, of intrigue and profit and power, of greed and exploitation, that he fails to heed the great lesson going on around him. He is so near his problems and brings his problems so near to him that he finally comes to believe that he and he alone, is the center of the universe. And that is a very sad mistake to make."
anon.

This Is Wealth #8
Inspirational Thought for the Day
This is Wealth #8 ... To be content with the things that are nearest - daily bread, daily loves, daily duties - so that you do not have to grasp at the stars for adventure; then at eventide a simple prayer with the benediction of sound sleep, while the silent stars keep vigil overheard, and you hold with you the child-like trust that God is behind all.

IF ...
Inspirational Thought for the Day:
If you come to a place that you can't get through
Or over, or under, the thing to do
Is to find a way 'round the impassable wall
Not to say you'll get your way or not at all.
You can always get to the place you're going
If you set your sails as the wind is blowing
If the mountains are high, go 'round the valley
If the streets are blocked, go up the alley.
If the parlor car's filled don't scorn a freight
If the front door's close, go in the side gate
To reach your goal, this advice is sound
If you can't go over or under, go 'round.

Everyone Makes Mistakes
Inspirational Thought for the Day
Everyone Makes Mistakes
(a variation of one of my favorites)
There was once a very understanding father who made one request of his son.
"Son," he said, pointing to a polished hardwood post stand in the back yard, "I want you to do just one thing for me. Each time you do an evil thing I want you to drive a nail into this post. And, when you have done a good deed or performed a charitable act, you may withdraw a nail."
The son agreed. He didn't understand why his father was asking this of him, but it seemed an easy request to fulfill.
Like most young men, he reluctantly found himself driving a nail into the post, but he did it anyway. He also found that when he was able to withdraw one of the nails, it was a moment of triumph. It was then that he discovered the wisdom of his father's request. Because, although each good act balanced a bad act, the nail holes could never be erased.
And so it is with all our lives. We may correct bad habits or make firm resolutions to change for the better; still there remains an indelible mark of the past, however slight.
If we are as wise as the father hoped his son would be, we will take a lesson from each of our mistakes. We will learn that our tomorrows often depend on our decisions and actions made TODAY.

Success
Inspirational Thought for the Day
an oldie but goodie
That man is a success who has lived well, laughed often, and loved much; who has gained the respect of intelligent men and the love of children; who has filled his niche and accomplished his task; who leaves the world better than he found it, whether by an improved poppy, a perfect poem or a rescued soul; who never lacked appreciation of earth's beauty or failed to express it; who looked for the best in others and gave the best he had.

A Message for Today
Inspirational Thought for the Day
A Message for Today
by J. Mench Chambers
When the day is torn by trouble
And your heart is lone and sad.
Just remember all the blessings
And the good that you have had.
God's sure hand is ever leading
Life the curtain of despair.
For however deep life's shadows
You will find your Father there.
There's a path His love is planning
Which must mean the best for you.
There are blessings, countless blessings,
Which are hidden now from view.
Tune your anxious heart to patience.
Walk by faith where sight is dim.
Loving God, be calm and trustful
And leave everything with Him.
Has not yesterday a lesson
Bearing on your present need?
"Daily bread for daily hunger"
Is the message there we read
Thus our heart gains full assurance
That His love will be our stay,
Giving strength and help and blessings,
As we need them for today.

Just remember all the blessings
And the good that you have had.
God's sure hand is ever leading
Life the curtain of despair.
For however deep life's shadows
You will find your Father there.
There's a path His love is planning
Which must mean the best for you.
There are blessings, countless blessings,
Which are hidden now from view.
Tune your anxious heart to patience.
Walk by faith where sight is dim.
Loving God, be calm and trustful
And leave everything with Him.
Has not yesterday a lesson
Bearing on your present need?
"Daily bread for daily hunger"
Is the message there we read
Thus our heart gains full assurance
That His love will be our stay,
Giving strength and help and blessings,
As we need them for today.

Prayer of a Clown
Inspirational Thought for the Day
Prayer of a Clown
Dear Lord: Help me to create more laughter than tears, disperse more happiness than gloom, spread more cheer than despair.
Never let me grow so big that I will fail to see the wonder in the eyes of a child or the twinkle in the eyes of the aged.
Never let me forget that I am a clown, that my work is to cheer people, make them laugh, and thus forget momentarily all the unpleasant things in their live.
Never let me acquire financial success to the point where I will discontinue calling upon my Creator in the hour of need, or acknowledging and thanking Him in the hour of plenty.

The Secret to Achieving Your Goals - a Personal GPS - S
Inspirational Thought for the Day
The Secret to Achieving Your Goals - a Personal GPS - S
S: Steps. Break your plan down into separate segments that are small enough to tackle one after another, and large enough to stretch your skills at least a little. Think in terms of what you can accomplish in a single day, where you want to be at the end of the first month, and so forth. This gives you a sense of direction and also helps you monitor progress.

Use Your Bank Deposit Wisely!
Inspirational Thought for the Day
Use Your Bank Deposit Wisely!
If you had a bank that credited your account each morning with $86,400 that carried over no balance from day to day and allowed you to keep no cash in your account and every evening canceled whatever part of the amount you had failed to use during the day, what would you do? Draw out every cent of course!
Well, you have such a bank, and its name is "time". Every morning it credits you with 86,400 seconds. Every night it rules off, as lost, whatever of this you have failed to invest in good purpose.
It carries over no balance. It allows no overdrafts. Every day it opens a new account with you. Each night it burns the records of the day. If you fail to use the day's deposits the loss is yours. There is no going back. There is no drawing against the 'tomorrows'.
You must live in the present - on today's deposits. Invest it so as to get from it the utmost in health, happiness and success.

Don't Quit
Inspirational Thought for the Day
Don't Quit
When things go wrong as they sometimes will
When the road you're traveling seems all uphill,
And you want to smile but you have to sigh.
When care is pressing you down a bit,
Rest if you must, but don't you quite.
Life is queer with its twists and turns,
As everyone of us sometimes learns,
And many a failure turns about,
Don't give up though the pace seems slow -
You may succeed with another blow.
Success is failure turned inside out,
The silver tint of the clouds of doubt,
And you never can tell how close you are.
It may be near when it seems so far.
So stick to the fight when you're hardest hit.
It's when things seem worse that you
MUST NOT QUIT!

O God, Keep us from Pettiness
Inspirational Thought for the Day
Keep us, O God, from pettiness, let us be large in thought, in word, in deed.
Let us be done with fault finding and leave off self-seeking.
May we put away all pretense and meet each other face to face without self-pity and prejudice.
May we never be hasty in judgment and always generous.
Let us take time for all things; make us to grow calm, serene, gentle.
Teach us to put into action our better impulses, straightforward and unafraid.
Grant that we may realize it is the little things that create differences; that in big things of life, we are one.
And may we strive to touch and to know the great common human heart of us all, and O Lord, God, let us not forget to be kind.

Share Everything
Inspirational Thought for the Day
"We should remember that it was a Jew who wrote 'The Lord Is My Shepherd, I Shall Not Want'. It was an Episcopal who wrote 'O Little Town of Bethlehem'. It was Martin Luther himself who wrote 'A Mighty Fortress is Our God'. It was a Presbyterian who wrote 'Rock of Ages'. It was a Baptist who wrote the famous old hymn about the 'River Which Flows by the Throne of God'. A Catholic wrote 'Silent Night' and a Methodist who wrote 'Jesus Lover of My Soul'.
It looks like if we can share our hymns with each other, we should be able to share other thing."

Oh, that I had wings like a dove - Psalms 55.6
Inspirational Thought for the Day
How often, in the troubled moments of life, we would like to sprout wings and fly away leaving it all behind us. Man's impossible dream, within this past century, became reality, and he has seen the face of the moon. Yet the earth is home and man, like the bird, must come home to roost. We need to think not in terms of escape, but of the things which we can do to right the wrongs we find and to preserve the many beauties and wonders of the earth which still exist in great measure.

Most people think happiness consists of having and getting and being served by others. True happiness comes in giving and serving others. What you leave behind, you save; what you spend, you have for a while; but what you give you take away with you.

Happiness
Inspirational Thought for the Day
Someone has said that happiness is a running stream: it cannot be a stagnant pool. Think about this for a moment and you will realize that one cannot have happiness by the side of the road. Happiness must be found in the mainstream of life. We cannot capture a single moment and hold onto it forever. Today must fade with the setting of the sun, knowing surely that tomorrow will come.
Look for happiness to come your way tomorrow in the shape of opportunity. You will find it only if you realize that happiness is not a discovery and not a point in time. Happiness is a byproduct of successful living.
Happiness is a duty done, a good deed, being loved, it is justice, freedom and know the will of God.

One Day ...
Inspirational Thought for the Day
One day a young man found a $5 bill between the ties of a railroad. From that time on he never lifted his eyes from the ground while walking. In 30 years, he accumulated 25,916 buttons, 62,172 rusted nails, 7 pennies, a bent back and a sour disposition. In finding all this, he lost the smiles of his friends, the songs of the birds, the beauties of nature and the opportunity to serve his fellow man and spread happiness.

Prayer of St. Francis of Assisi
Lord, make me an instrument of Thy peace;
where there is hatred, let me sow love;
where there is injury, pardon;
where there is doubt, faith;
where there is despair, hope;
where there is sadness, joy.
O, Divine Master, grant that I may not so much seek
to be consoled as to console;
to be understood as to understand;
to be loved, as to love;
for it is in giving that we receive;
it is in pardoning that we are pardoned,
and it is in dying that we are born to eternal life.

It Needs Work
Inspiration for the Day:
It is quite possible to work without results, but never will there be results without work.
James 2:
18 But someone will say, "You have faith, and I have works." Show me your faith without your works, and I will show you my faith by my works.
19 You believe that there is one God. You do well. Even the demons believe--and tremble!
20 But do you want to know, O foolish man, that faith without works is dead?
21 Was not Abraham our father justified by works when he offered Isaac his son on the altar?
22 Do you see that faith was working together with his works, and by works faith was made perfect?
23 And the Scripture was fulfilled which says, "Abraham believed God, and it was accounted to him for righteousness." And he was called the friend of God.
24 You see then that a man is justified by works, and not by faith only.
25 Likewise, was not Rahab the harlot also justified by works when she received the messengers and sent them out another way?
26 For as the body without the spirit is dead, so faith without works is dead also.

Unfinished
Unfinished
by Henry Ward Beech
The deeper men go into life, the deeper is their conviction that this life is not all. It is an "unfinished symphony". A day may round out an insect's life, and a bird or a bee needs no tomorrow. No so with him who knows that he is related to God and has felt the power of an endless life.

Little Things
It takes a little muscle, it takes a little grit, a little true ambition with a little bit of wit. It's not the biggest things that count, and make the biggest show; It's the little things that people do that makes this old world go. A little bit of smiling, and a little sunny chat, a little bit of courage to a comrade slipping back. It takes a kindly action and it take a word of cheer, to fill life with sunshine and to drive away a tear.

Service Above Self
"I have to live with myself and so I want to be fit for myself to know. I want to be able as days go by always to look myself straight in the eye.
I don't want to stand with the setting sun and hate myself for the things I've done.
I can never hide myself from me: I see what others may never see.
I know what others may never know; I can never fool myself and so, whatever happens, I want to be self-respecting, hones and conscience-free."

Words of Wisdom
Words of Wisdom
The most distinctive mark of a cultured mind is the ability to take another's point of view; to put one's self in another's place, and see life and the problems from a point of view different from one's own. To be willing to test a new idea; to be able to live on the edge of difference in all matters intelligently; to examine without heat the burning question of the day; to have imaginative sympathy, openness and flexibility of mind, steadiness and poise of feeling, cool calm of judment, is to have culture.

His Yoke is Easy
A man was carrying a heavy basket. His son asked to help him. The father cut a stick and passed it through the handle of the basket so that the end toward himself was very short, while the end toward the boy was three or four times as long. Each took hold of his end of the stick, and the basket was lifted and easily carried. The son was bearing the burden with the father, but he found his work easy and light because his father assumed the heavy end of the stick. Just so it is when we bear the yoke with Christ; He sees to it that the burden laid on us is light; He carries the heavy end.

Some Things Abide
The tide washes seashells on the beach as the waves break and the foam comes paddling like puppies' feet on the sand. Receding, it takes many shells with it. A few remain.
The summertime poppies bloom in splendor for a few weeks. Then they're gone. But after the brilliant blossoms have faded and died the plant scatters its seed to the wind, and next year more poppies bloom in unsuspected places.
But some things abide: memories of loved ones and of worthwhile deed; the good seeds which have been sown and which reproduce after their kind; the bread cast upon the water; the souls of men; love.
The fun and folly of summer will soon be gone and forgotten. But that which we do for God will last throughout eternity.

It's a Pretty Good World
It's a pretty good world - this world of ours -
Full of Heavenly life and beautiful flowers.
Full of gladness and joy, if you want it to be -
Full of beautiful sights, if you would only see.
And though often we're bumped and tossed and whirled,
Even at that - it's a pretty good world.
It's a pretty good world, it seems to me -
Exactly the spot where I'm happy to be.
Here in the midst of sorrow and care -
There's pleasure and happiness everywhere.
And, though often the banner of hate is unfurled, even at that,
It's a pretty good world.
It's a pretty good world, and it's yours and mine -
To fill with gloom or bright sunshine;
To fill with sadness or fill with tears.
God gave it to you and He gave it to me --
So, let's make it the world it ought to be!

Friendship
Give me the love of friends and I shall not complain of cloudy sky or little dream that fade and die.
Give me the clasp of one firm hand, the lips that say 'I understand' and I shall walk on holy land.
For fame and fortune burdens bring, and winter takes the rose from spring; but friendship is a Godly thing.

Modest, but not pompous about it;
Proud, but not boastful about it;
Kind, but not ostentatious about it;
Courteous, but not theatrical about it;
Benevolent, but not blusterous about it;
Considerate, but not pretentious about it;
... You're in luck.
You've just met a lady or a gentleman.

Edmund Hillary
Do your recall when Edmund Hillary and his native guide, Tenzing, made their historic climb of Mt. Everest? Coming down from the peak Hillary suddenly lost his footing. Tenzing held the line taut and kept them both from falling by digging his ax into the ice. Later Tenzing refused any special credit for saving Hillary's life; he considered it a routing part of the job. As he put it: "Mountain climbers always help each other."
Should the rest of us be any different?
Should the rest of us be any different?

My Soul
An Old Verse
I sought my soul, but my soul I could not see.
I sought my God, but my God eluded me.
I sought my brother, and I found all three.
I sought my soul, but my soul I could not see.
I sought my God, but my God eluded me.
I sought my brother, and I found all three.

Hope
Of all the forces that make for a better world, none is so indispensable, none so powerful, as hope. Without hope, men are only half live; with hope, they dream and think and work.

Success #9
Success is accepting the challenge of the difficult. In the inspiring words of Philips Brooks: "Do not pray for tasks equal to your powers. Pray for powers equal to your tasks. Then the doing of your work shall be no miracle, but shall be the miracle."

A Child's Message to His Parents #6
Don't make me feel that my mistakes are sins. I have to learn to make mistakes without feeling that I am no good.
Don't nag me. If you do, I shall protect myself by developing temporary deafness.
Don't demand explanations for my wrong behavior. I really don't know why I did it.

A Child's Message to His Parents #5
Don't try to discuss my behavior in the heat of the conflict. For some reason my hearing is not very good at this time, and my cooperation is even worse. It's alright to talk the action required, but let's not talk about it until later.
Don't preach to me. You'd be surprised how well I know what's right and wrong.

A Child's Message to His Parents #4
Don't let my 'bad habits' get me a lot of attention. It only encourages me to continue them.
Don't correct me in front of people. I'll take much more notice if you talk quietly with me in private.
